Floating Solar on Sweetwater Reservoir 

Update: 2023-09-29:

• Sweetwater Authority views Noria Energy as their consultant not an energy partner. 

• County of San Diego parks department supports the floating solar array but expressed concerns about the view shed from Summit Park. 

• Board clarified their intent is to learn more so an informed decision can be made in the future

• Board approved initiation of Renewable Energy Self-Generation Bill Credit Transfer (RES-BCT) application with SDG&E

  • Preliminary size of solar array: 10.5 acres

  • Generating capacity: 3.75 MW (AC) or 5.31 MW (DC)

  • Approval process with SDG&E: approximately 8 months. 

• Board approved initiation of an environmental Initial Study/ Mitigated Negative Declaration to comply with CEQA (California Environmental Quality Act.)

  • 2-phased floating solar system described in environmental scope of work

    • Phase 1: By Sweetwater Authority: Pilot- 1 acre + Phase 1- 12-acres 

    • Phase 2: Future Community Solar project by others 12 acres
